DAY 1: Nairobi, Kenya – Arrival
Welcome to Kenya! Keep your eyes open for your first wildlife sightings as you land in Nairobi, as you will fly directly over Nairobi National Park, immediately adjacent to the airport. After you clear customs, you’ll drive through Nairobi National Park, passing game along the way, arriving at the Emakoko. Enjoy dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: Nairobi and Elephant Encounter
After breakfast, head to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Rescue Center where you can interact with baby-orphaned elephants and watch as their caretakers feed them their morning meal and give them play time. You’ll learn about the important work the organization is doing regarding elephant conservation. Enjoy lunch and shopping in the lush suburb of Karen before returning to your lodge via game drive and overnight.
DAY 3: Flight to Your Maasai Mara Safari and afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, you will be transferred about 30 minutes to the domestic airport where you will hop on a quick flight in a bush plane to the Masai Mara and Naibor Camp. You’ll be met at the airstrip and transferred to camp via game drive. This afternoon, head out with your guide for a game drive down to the Mara River. This conservation area is rich with game and extremely private, you’ll feel as if the African savannah is all your own! After enjoying the wildlife you will enjoy sundowner cocktails under a massive Acacia tree before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: Full day game drive in the Maasai Mara with picnic lunch
This morning, head into the Masai Mara National Reserve for a full day game drive. Notice the wildebeest and zebra amassing as you approach the river. Here they cross the crocodile-filled river over to longer grasses. As the morning wears on, take a break for a hot breakfast under the shade of an acacia tree and perhaps later enjoy lunch alongside a river. Return to camp at your leisure for an afternoon rest. After high tea, you may wish to return for another drive or simply enjoy time on the extended deck overlooking the river. This evening enjoy dinner around the open fireside under a canopy of stars.
DAY 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve, High Tea and Game Drive & Hot Air Balloon Ride
This morning, wake early for a truly once in a lifetime experience; hot air balloon ride over the plains and the wildebeest migration. After silently gliding over Africa’s big game for an hour, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush. Spend the afternoon relaxing, reading and resting in camp before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Return to camp for a late dinner and overnight.
DAY 6: Laikipia and Walking Safari
This morning, fly to the Laikipia district in northern Kenya. Here, you’ll meet your guides and camel caravan who will escort you through the bush on foot for the next few days. Begin walking slowly towards you first nights’ camp. Notice the difference in landscape and wildlife in this more arid region of Kenya. Arrive into camp in time for a hot shower and dinner.
DAY 7: Laikipia Walking Safari, Tracking Wildlife, Camel Ride
After breakfast, set out on foot once again. You’ll spend about 5 hours walking slowly through the bush, tracking wildlife and also learning about some of the smaller flora and fauna in the region. If you need a break, you can hop on a camel specially outfitted with a comfortable, padded saddle. The guides carry snacks and water. Arrive into your next night’s camp in time for a late lunch. Cool off with a swim in the river before enjoying a hot shower, dinner and overnight in camp.
DAY 8: Laikipia Walking Safari, Exploring the Wilderness on Foot
Head out early after breakfast so to see as much game as possible, walking across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle relax on the plains. Arrive at camp in time for lunch. The pack camels with the camp will have made a more direct route and will have camp set up and waiting for your arrival. After lunch relax and walk to a pretty spot for sundowners.
DAY 9: Namunyak Wilidlife Conservancy – Swimming and Game Drive
This morning, transfer to the airstrip for a quick flight to the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy and Sarara Camp. Perched in far northern Kenya, this is a conservation success story and one of the most private safari experiences in Kenya. Arrive into camp for a late lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing by the infinity swimming pool, watching elephant and other game as they come to the watering hole below. After high tea, set out with your guide for an early evening game drive, enjoying elephant and giraffe in great numbers. As the sun sets look for the resident leopard near the river. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
DAY 10: Singing Wells and Cultural Experience
This morning, you will experience one of the most sacred cultural experiences in Kenya; the Singing Wells. Drive a short distance to the dry river bed. Here, permanent wells are maintained by families and passed down from generation to generation. This water gives life to cattle and goats on which these local communities survive. You’ll watch the men and boys sing to their herds, who know each unique song and only drink when called for. Later, visit a local Samburu manyata and learn about the way these nomadic people live. Return to camp for an in-room massage and relaxing evening.
DAY 11: Ol Donyo Lenkio Mountain Hike and Game Drive
After breakfast, set out from camp on foot for a hike in the Ol Donyo Lenkio mountains. You’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Namunyak Conservancy. After lunch and a refreshing swim, enjoy one final game drive in Africa.
